Form 130 is Now Form 130: The Great Renumbering of ITA 2025#

The Chaos of the Old Numbering System#

For decades, Indian taxpayers and accountants have memorized arbitrary form numbers. We knew that Form 130 was for salary TDS, Form 131 was for non-salary TDS, Form 26AS was the tax passbook, and Form 121 was for avoiding TDS on FDs.

These numbers (derived from the archaic Income Tax Rules of 1962) followed no logical sequence. They were added, amended, and suffixed with letters over 60 years, resulting in a chaotic, confusing web of compliance documents.

The Logical Restructuring of ITA 2025#

The drafters of the Income Tax Act, 2025 didn't just simplify the laws; they completely overhauled the administrative machinery. Starting April 1, 2026, all Income Tax Rules and Forms have been renumbered using a logical, block-based system.

Forms are now grouped sequentially based on their function (e.g., all TDS forms are in the 100-series, all assessment forms are in the 200-series).

Key Form Changes You Must Know:#

  1. Form 130 is now Form 130 The famous "Form 130"—the holy grail for salaried employees—is officially retired. Your employer will now issue a Form 130 (Certificate of Tax Deducted at Source on Salary) at the end of the Tax Year.

  2. Form 131 is now Form 131 If you earn professional fees, rent, or commission, the deductor will issue a Form 131 instead of the old Form 131.

  3. Form 26AS is now Form 150 (Taxpayer Profile Statement) The Annual Information Statement and the old 26AS have been merged into a single, comprehensive document known as Form 150. This form will contain your entire financial footprint (TDS, high-value transactions, property purchases).

  4. Form 121 / 15H are now Form 115 and Form 116 If you want to stop banks from deducting TDS on your Fixed Deposits, you will now ask the bank manager for a Form 115 (for regular individuals) or Form 116 (for senior citizens).

  5. Form 10B/10BB (Audit Reports for Trusts) are now Form 220 Charitable trusts and NGOs will now file their audit reports under the newly consolidated Form 220.

Updating Your Systems#

This renumbering requires an immediate update to all payroll software (like SAP, Workday, or local HRMS) and accounting ERPs. Finance teams must start educating their employees that in May 2027, they should be asking HR for their "Form 130," not their Form 130!
